My Take On It
There was an interesting post made to the UFO UpDates List, today, April 26. It came from Larry Landsman, Director of Special Projects for the SCI-FI Channel in the United States. Landsman posted this to the UFO UpDates List to clear up any possible misunderstandings there might be about two issues. One - the difference between SCI-FI channel's position on documentaries they have not paid for or produced but will air - and documentaries that they have either paid for and/or produced. The second issue concerned SCI-FI Channel's position and involvement regarding CFI, The Coalition for Freedom of Information. InLandsman's post, he stated "although SCI FI is first and foremost an entertainment network broadcasting a wide array of programming - from fiction to non-fiction, we are also committed to further serious public inquiry and understanding of the 'UFO Phenomenon'." Regarding CFI, he stated that SCI-FI Channel would be supporting CFI in some critical areas of their goal of "generating serious media coverage of the UFO issue; to work with members of Congress; to assist scientists in gaining credibility for the subject and increasing resources for research" With all of that being said though, it didn't take long for the post to have comments from two noteworthy ufologists, Richard Hall and Wendy Connors. Neither of whom felt that SCI-FI Channel was going to 'do right' by UFOs. Richard feels that SCI-FI Channel is going to force the viewer to have to sift through the slop to find the real facts about UFOs and Wendy feels that because of demographic constraints, SCI-FI Channel is going to have to water down or tailor their programming to make sure that they get enough numbers to stay in business and that the serious study of UFOs is not going to allow that to take place. Now it's rather obvious that SCI-FI Channel felt that it was under some kind attack or pressure and had to respond and I, for one, am glad to see the response that they have set out with Larry Landsman's post. It shows in no uncertain terms, a willingness by a major media player in the United States to deal with Ufology in a serious manner. It also shows a willingness for a station like SCI- FI Channel to stand up and put their money where their mouth is. They are going to produce and pay for production of documentaries like 'The Roswell Crash - Startling New Evidence' and are going to fund more productions like that. In conjunction with that, they are also going to fund and support CFI. - an organization whose stated goal is to get UFO Disclosure. The bottom line in all of this is that SCI-FI Channel has come out and made a public statement showing that they are willing to go to the next phase and are willing to get off their butts and do something positive and constructive towards finding out the real truth about UFOs and about trying to get at whatever information is being kept away from the unwashed masses about who and or what has been flitting around our planet with impunity. SCI-FI Channel even sponsored a conference about abductions to show that if it involves UFOs, they're concerned and they're interested. And what do Ufologists do when SCI-FI Channel makes such a monumentous announcement? Do they come out and say "Yes, it's about time?" Nope, they begin by discussing how SCI-FI channel should do it right or by discussing how it is going to be done wrong even before we get to see frame one of the next SCI-FI sponsored documentary. Before we began to break down the walls of a building under construction, perhaps we should allow the architects to get it off the drawing board..... But that's just my take on it..... |
