My Take On It

There is an interesting thread on the UFO UpDates List this past week, that begins as 'The Oberg Challenge' and interested parties can go and read the full length of the thread so far by going to the UFO UpDates Archive. The reason I say it is interesting is because it addresses a letter written by James Oberg to Stephen Greer after the Disclosure conference held in Washington back in May of 2001.

In this supposed letter written by Mr. Oberg, it says, and I quote:

"I am a lifelong UFO buff, a founding fellow of CSICOP and a long time associate of Phil Klass." (and this is supposed to make me believe you want to help the UFO community?) The letter goes on from there of course because the NASA spokespuppy has never been one to quickly get to the point when the chance for long-winded eloquence arises so I shall highlight the contents of the correspondence.

The spokespuppy applauds the disclosure effort by bringing forth witnesses to events involving UFOs and even goes on to state that he has never bought into the "I've been sworn to secrecy" angle and knows nobody that has ever been prosecuted for coming out. But all of this stuff at the beginning of the letter is just 'smoke'.

Mr. Oberg speaks about knowing a "list of people" who have privately talked to him about concocting stories or being associated with developing stories about UFOs and extra- terrestrial beings to hide what the government or military was really doing. In other words instead of telling us they were retrieving a nuclear missile or bomb, they let it be known that they were supposedly guarding a downed alien spacecraft. According to Oberg, this would ensure that there was LESS press and people would have less interest in what was going on.

I kinda feel like the guy in a group where someone is trying to say that black is white and everyone is agreeing with him but all I can see is black, my hand goes up and I ask the question he doesn't want to hear..... "Does anybody else have a problem with this? I mean, I was born at night but it wasn't last night!"

You let out a story about crashed alien spacecraft or the sighting of a top secret airplane and tell everyone it is nothing more than a UFO because you want less attention? Oberg even talks about some of these sightings being nothing more than the military or the government playing pranks or jokes on people. Excuse me? Are you honestly trying to tell me that some high-ranking officer or test pilot somewhere got bored and decided it would be fun to let the locals think they were seeing a UFO?

The bottom line of Oberg's letter is that he wants Mr. Greer to INCLUDE with his witnesses those who supposedly have been involved in playing these jokes on us over the ages because it will allow full disclosure from the government. In other words, let's muddy the waters a little by tossing in witnesses who haven't seen anything, they've just been involved in actively lying to us. Let me put that in perspective for you again. We would have witnesses stating that they lied to us about UFOs testifying that what they were saying now was the truth... "I lied to you before but I'm not lying this time....." Guess Mr. Oberg never read the story of 'The Boy Who Cried Wolf'.

Now I'm not saying that some UFO related sightings have not been mis-identified secret military events but I have a difficult time in believing that they would activelY try to convince us that it was a UFO or aliens because they felt it was easy to keep it quiet that way.

Oberg states at the bottom of his letter,

"This is a serious proposal deserving of serious consideration, and promises immensely fruitful results."

Sorry spokespuppy, I just don't buy it!.....

But that's just my take on it.....
