My Take On It
A Ufological icon under siege... or merely an attempt by a media producer to stir the pot and get something more out of a misleading piece on Roswell? The History Channel in the United States put to air a controversial piece this past week called, 'Roswell: Final Declassification' and to say that it has caused a furor in the ufological community would be like saying the events of September 11 caused a small decline in airline travel. Now, unfortunately, living in Canada, I did not have the... opportunity... to view the actual program in question but from some of the comments I've read by people who have seen the program and other remarks by some of the notable personages who were roped-in to participate in the production of the show, I've learned that I can safely say the producers of 'Roswell: Final Declassification'... tretched the truth, a little. Even Karl Pflock, author of 'Roswell: Inconvenient Facts' told the producers of the show that the material they were promoting as being "highly classified" or "Top Secret" was at the best... misleading. The producers conveniently ignored Karl and notable Roswell researcher, Kevin Randle. Not only that, but from what I understand... the material that the producers said that they were granted "exclusive rights" to see... could be gotten by my cat if she mewled loudly enough for them. In an attempt to gain a little insight into the program, I contacted Kevin Randle, because he was one of the people that the producers of 'Roswell: Final Declassification' brought in for the program and he informed me that the materials contained in the boxes of "highly classified" materials included such things as some pictures of Charles Moore, a few one-page letters from some researchers and even some materials provided by FUFOR, the Fund for UFO Research. To quote Kevin..... "In other words, the material was gathered from various UFO researchers including Stan Friedman and me. The files were created after 1994 and were collected by James McAndrew in his investigation of Roswell. These are not files from 1947 and included the report of a court martial of a doctor at Roswell in 1957 that has absolutely nothing to do with the UFO case." To which I'm sure the producers would respond: "And why shouldn't we include a file about a court martial in 1957? We talk about parachute dummies being used in the 50's being mistaken for alien bodies back in 1947, don't we?" Bottom line,'Roswell: Final Declassification' put together a nice little piece that merely used facts that only supported their point of view, which by itself is a perfectly acceptable thing to do. However, when those facts purposefully cloud over and hide other issues, the program does nothing more than simply become a Dis-Information piece..... But that's just my take on it.... |
