My Take On It
General media or mainstream media has a dilemma. The dilemma is that in order to justify their existence, they must maintain a 'share of market' that proves people either listen, watch or read. As a result of this, every now and again, a week comes along that has become known as ratings week. Even here at CFRB we are not sheltered from 'ratings week' and sometimes shows will tailor their content in an attempt to bring in the largest possible audience. Ratings week makes producers tremble and turns programming managers into ghouls because, depending on the viewing, reading, or listening habits of a bunch of people and some numbers, a show will either live or die. I can already hear you wondering where the heck I'm going with this and asking what does this have to do with UFOs. Well, it seems that we are involved in a ratings week right now for the major networks and they're pulling out all the stops. In otherwords, they're going to a lot of what we refer to as the "fluff-pieces" - those stories or events that normally would not see light but they make good headlines or lead-ins and because of their obscurity or crazy content, become audience attractors. The crazier or more sensational the piece means that it will attract the greatest numbers and what do you think is the number one 'fluff-piece'? UFOs of course. UFO stories have always been perceived by mainstream media as being nothing more than fringe news. You can hear the 'giggles'from the news personalities even as they speak about the sighting of a UFO and if that same story involves anybody who is abducted, the intensity of the giggles increases. Why? I believe one of the main reasons is that nobody likes to be made to look like a fool and the UFO community has more than enough traps ready to snare some reporter, journalist or anchorman. Although there is more than enough evidence to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that UFOs are real and there is something behind them, there is also more than enough bogus-evidence produced by hoaxsters like Jonathan Reed and Robert Raith that will make even the most trustworthy media appear like some court jester instead of a responsible journalist. As a result of stories like 'Dr. Reed's', the safest career position for a journalist to stay in is one of disbelief when it comes to UFOs and anything related to them. Imagine for a moment however that this was not the case. Come along with me on a little dream of mine. Mainstream media depends on the investigative journalist to uncover stories that are important to us and when a story pops, inevitably it explodes because suddenly it becomes a feeding frenzy and every single little detail becomes public knowledge. Imagine for a moment that instead of UFOs being something of a giggle factor, several investigative journalists got together and decided to crack the story. They decided to attack the story with all their resources to get to the bottom of the confusion. Imagine them getting at some of the proof, some of the cover-up and more than even any of that, they would keep digging until they discovered for themselves exactly what the reason was behind the cover-up that is ongoing. Imagine them reporting the story without the giggle factor, imagine them telling us nothing more than just the facts as they have discovered. Imagine them getting conclusive proof and having more than a single source verifying what they have uncovered. There is no doubt in my mind that if a team like Woodward and Bernstein could uncover Watergate so completely that another investigative team could uncover the Real Truth behind the UFO phenomenon..... But that's just my take on it.... |
